Memory Quilt

As high school came to a close,  I realized I had more t-shirts than I knew what to do with. However, each shirt represented a memory and I couldn't bear to get rid of any of them, even if they were suffocating my closet.

The solution came to me after I saw that one of my friends had sent her excess t-shirts to a company that sewed them into a quilt. I could do that,  I thought, so embarked on the project.

I first arranged the shirts, then cut them out. I had to cut carefully, as t-shirt fabric is prone to stretching.

I stitched each shirt together to create the face of the quilt before measuring and cutting the batting and the backing fabric, then sewed all the layers into one. And just like that, it was done.

With the quilt, I kept my memories alive

The Centerpiece

In the middle of the sea of t-shirts, I included a quilted square of triangles, each eclectic fabric representing the members of my community that meant so much to me and helped make me the person I am today. These include my family, friends, coaches, and teachers that supported me through my journey through my life so far.
